Aaron Rodgers‘ stint with the New York Jets has gone far from planned, and after a loss to the Seattle Seahawks dropped their record to 3-9, some have pondered whether the team would be better served shutting the veteran quarterback down for the remainder of the 2024 campaign.
The veteran has dealt with a slew of injuries this season, and there’s been a noticeable decline in his play throughout the last couple of months, but interim coach Jeff Ulbrich isn’t considering switching gears to backup Tyrod Taylor. He confirmed Rodgers will remain the starter on Monday afternoon.
“#Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters today that QB Aaron Rodgers will continue to start for the team, giving them the best chance to win,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport posted on X.
Continuing, Ulbrich laid it out plain as day to the media: “He’s our quarterback. … We have great belief in Aaron. We think he gives us the best opportunity to win.” he stated, via Rapoport and The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt, when pressed about Rodgers.
In Week 13, Rodgers completed 21-of-39 pass attempts for 185 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, which resulted in a highlight reel pick-six for Leonard Williams. It was a windy, bitter afternoon inside MetLife Stadium, and Rodgers notably missed a wide-open Garrett Wilson for a touchdown, as well.

Still, the Jets raced out to a 14-0 lead, and their defense helped keep them ahead for most of the first three quarterers. However, a go-ahead eight-yard run from Zach Charbonnet put the Seahawks ahead late in the fourth, and they never looked back.
Moving forward, the Jets have lost eight of their last nine games, aside from a Halloween victory over the Houston Texans. Next up on the schedule is the Miami Dolphins.
One has to wonder how many more losses will have to pile up before Aaron Rodgers is benched by New York, and the franchise turns the page on what’s bound to go down as one of the more disappointing moves in recent memory.
