'Jeopardy!' contestants fail miserably in Sports Hall of Famer category
The sports category didn’t go over so well among the contestants on Jeopardy! recently. Apparently, the three individuals participating in this episode didn’t have much knowledge of the Hall of Fame.
Contestants saved the “Hall of Fame” category for last, and you can understand why. Things started off well, with the first question getting answered correctly.
The clue, “Joe Namath and Joe Montana” was answered correctly with, “quarterback.” But that’s where the sports knowledge ended for these three contestants. Below is the video:
Aren’t Jeopardy! contestants supposed to be smart?! With a knowledge base that spans across multiple subjects?!
Obviously, these individuals are smarter than most of us. Sports just … isn’t their strong suit. That was pretty evident during this recent edition of the program.
I mean, who doesn’t know what sports and position Jerry Rice and Randy Moss played? That seems like a no-brainer. At least for most of us.
Not the first time Jeopardy! contestants whiff on sports
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time a sports category has gone wrong on Jeopardy!. In 2016, a college question went really wrong for one contestant.
With a category labeled “Knowledge about college,” Justin was the contestant and he picked the $600 question, which happened to be a Daily Double. Host Alex Trebek presented the statement to Justin, which read “It’s the only Pac-12 school that does not contain the name of the state.”

Now, if Justin had answered USC or UCLA, it could have maybe been understandable since the state’s name is hidden inside of the acronym. Although the answer is Stanford, you could possibly give the contest a pass on those two.
Instead, Justin gave an answer so outlandish that he possibly embarrassed Pac-12 fans across the country. You can watch the full moment here.
Auburn and Stanford are just over 2,400 miles apart and if you were to make the road trip, it would take approximately 36 hours. You would have to travel through three time zones, and the Big 12 Conference, before getting to the Pac-12 school.
The two programs have never met on the football field either, as the Tigers only have 13 combined games played against the Pac-12. Perhaps Justin was thinking of the 1999-2000 regular-season matchup in college basketball where No. 9 Stanford upset No. 2 Auburn in the John Wooden Classic.
Although this clip is nothing new, it’s still shocking nearly six years later. Justin said the answer during a 2016 broadcast of the show and quite possibly will never let it down. Fans of Auburn and the Pac-12 Conference may not have a ton in common but they can all laugh together at this hilarious clip.
