The New York Jets had quite the hall in the 2022 NFL Draft, and that extended from Round 1 through the team’s final pick in Round 4. On Thursday, the Jets opened their draft by selecting Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner with the No. 4 overall pick, and then took Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson at No. 10 overall. Later on in the draft, the Jets took Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert in the third round, reuniting him with Wilson in New York.

Following his selection, Ruckert expressed his excitement to be joining the Jets alongside a former teammate in Wilson. Ruckert couldn’t say enough about Wilson, both as a player and as a person off the field.

“Yeah, I mean he’s my guy,” Ruckert said. “Ever since he first came into our building, he was a great guy. You can tell he’s a great player, but he’s always a great personality and fun to be around. Uplifted so many guys. I think that the player he is speaks for himself, but I feel like what people don’t understand is what kind of person he is. I can’t wait to continue to be his teammate and continue to work alongside of him. I’m just excited for him and I’m just excited in general.”

Ruckert teams up with Wilson in his hometown with the Jets

The Jets needed a wide receiver in the NFL Draft, and they found a good one in Wilson. New York also needed another tight end, and Ruckert is a solid option to help fill that void. Together, Ruckert and Wilson should both have important roles rather quickly with the Jets.

Ruckert caught 26 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns this past season, averaging 11.9 yards per reception.

In addition to teaming up with Wilson with the Jets, Ruckert will also be returning home and playing for his hometown team. Ruckert grew up as a Jets fan, and he and his family are undoubtedly excited about his destination in the draft.

When Ruckert was selected in the draft on Friday night, J-E-T-S chants broke out in his living room, and his family and friends, one of which was wearing a Jets shirt, broke out in celebration right away. It was a special weekend for Ruckert, and now he will look to make an impact on the team that he grew up cheering for.
