Jerry Jones addresses Dallas Cowboys QB decision between Cooper Rush, Trey Lance
Jerry Jones addressed the Dallas Cowboys quarterback situation after a rough offensive performance this past weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to the team owner, the Cowboys are going to stick with Cooper Rush this weekend against the Houston Texans: “He does give us our best chance,” Jones said during an appearance on 105.3 The FAN, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Evidently, Jones believes this past weekend’s game against the Eagles isn’t indicative of the type of quarterback the Cowboys have grown to know in Rush, as the team owner added it was “out of character from him: “He was not the Cooper Rush we know,” Jones added. “A lot of things went wrong for us out there (Sunday). He can play better than that.”
As for Trey Lance, the former top draft pick who’s waiting in the wings for Dallas, Jones added that he wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some plays added to feature the dual-threat quarterback, but he’s not usurping Rush as the team’s starter, at least not yet.

Regardless of who the quarterback is for Dallas, they need to stop the bleeding. The Cowboys are on a four-game losing-streak. At the moment, the NFC Wild Card picture seems out of reach, although you can never count out a miraculous run, not when your roster has this much talent on it.
In the past, Rush has filled in admirably for Dak Prescott. It certainly makes sense why Dallas is bullish on the quarterback, even after his performance on Sunday afternoon, where he only passed for 45 yards. The thing working for Lance is he’s the unknown, even if he got some burn this past weekend.
Alas, the Cowboys have some high-profile showdowns coming up, playing in multiple standalone games, including the traditional afternoon slot on Thanksgiving Day against the New York Giants. If Cooper Rush is who they think gives them the best chance to win, it only makes sense to stick with the veteran backup.
