Jerry Jones addresses Mike McCarthy's future following Lions loss
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed head coach Mike McCarthy‘s future after the team lost to the Detroit Lions 47-9 on Sunday. When asked about a potential coaching change, Jones said, “I’m not considering that.”
Jerry Jones was also asked if there were going to be any personnel or coaching changes. “I’m not ready to talk about changes right now,” he said.
It was a tough loss for the Cowboys who have yet to win a home game this season. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for just 178 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions, and the offense registered only 251 yards with five turnovers. Defensively, the Cowboys allowed 492 yards including 184 yards on the ground.
Through six games, the Cowboys are 3-3 but have won two of the last three. They are off next week before hitting the road the next two weeks to take on the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, respectively. The Cowboys need to find a way to win the next two games or their playoff hopes will be in danger.

Looking at Mike McCarthy’s tenure with Cowboys
McCarthy was hired as the Cowboys head coach in 2020. In his four-plus seasons in Dallas, McCarthy has led the team to two NFC East titles and three playoff appearances. But during McCarthy’s tenure, the Cowboys have won just one playoff game and have not made it past the divisional round.
Last month, Jones revealed when McCarthy’s pressure to win will come. “I don’t think where he is with his contract has anything to do with [the season-opening win at] Cleveland, where we were giving accolades out to him and [Mike] Zimmer or how we played Sunday,” Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan (per Pro Football Talk). “We’re trying to get this team ready and in place to really make a run at the playoffs. On any given Sunday you can have a bad day in the NFL, and you can certainly lose a game in the NFL. And the NFL is one that you can lose several games, and if you’re playing well at the end of the year you can win the Super Bowl. And so that’s just what we’ve got.”
