Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it clear Tuesday that the team is going “all in” on the 2024 season, future be damned.

“We will be going all in,” Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, per Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future.”

While going all in for the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship in 28 years is the right approach, the message likely rings hollow for Cowboys fans who have witnessed playoff disappointment for the last near three decades. The latest postseason failure came in this year’s NFC Wild Card Round, a 48-32 defeat to the Green Bay Packers inside AT&T Stadium.

While in past years Dallas may have not exactly had a Super Bowl roster, this year was different. The Cowboys owned a top-five offense and defense this season and saw both their kicker and punter named to the NFC Pro Bowl squad.

Jones admitted he understands why Cowboys fans have lost faith and trust in the team.

“There’s no way they’re going to explicitly trust you until you get it done,” Jones said. “Until we compete at that level, and we get the job done, there’s going to be doubt. And rightfully so.”

Jerry Jones explains bringing Mike McCarthy back for 2024 season

In going all in next season, the Cowboys and Jones decided that Mike McCarthy was fit to remain in his role as head coach despite speculation he could be fired after the loss to the Packers. McCarthy, entering the final season of his contract, has gone 42-25 in four seasons in Dallas.

Jones explained why he was “comfortable” rolling with McCarthy for the 2024 season.

“I thought we made a pretty good move four years ago when we hired Mike McCarthy. And he’s had some great in season success,” Jones said. “Now he’s come up short three times on advancing us in the playoffs. Okay, but I liked the fact that he’s hanging around and around. And I like what the team has done to hang around the rim.

“So, I think what the answer that I would have is that I’m aware that we’re hanging around. We’re not getting the ball in, but we’ve been hanging around the rim. Let’s don’t discount hanging around the rim. We need to benefit from what he’s done well. And we’re better off riding with it than we would be by changing or obviously, I would have changed. This is one I’m very comfortable with.”
