Those who follow NFL football know that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a unique perspective and an even more unique way of explaining things. So, it should come as no surprise that when he was asked about quarterback Dak Prescott and his play in last Thursday’s overtime defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Cowboys owner put a strange spin on his answer.

“This may sound strange, it will, I thought Dak played a good game the other day. We weren’t hitting on all cylinders. Some would say, ‘well, Dak was a part of that.’ He’d like to have some back that he threw, but in general, I thought that Dak played a good game. Have we had more success? Obviously, we have. But I thought he did a really great job, particularly coming back after being thwarted, I’m going to use that word, most of the afternoon and then come back and get us in a spot to win the game, Jones said.

“So again, he wants more. He does want more. We want more results, but that’s not a criticism of him. I’m glad we’ve got him, boy. He’s one of the best. Contrary to the fact that we lost the game, he got us back in position and I thought he was the deciding difference to get us back in position to have a chance to win the game. And that’s what we asked him to do.”

The Cowboys Pro Bowl quarterback had his hands full against the Raiders and did everything he could to keep the Cowboys in the game. Despite not having his two top receivers available, in Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb, Prescott was still able to throw for 375 yards, and two touchdowns, while completing 32 of his 47 pass attempts.

Cowboys and Raiders TV ratings

The Thanksgiving Day matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders made NFL ratings history as the final numbers were announced Tuesday. The NFL saw the largest holiday viewer numbers in 23 years, and the Cowboys versus the Raiders was the third-most watched regular-season game of all time.

The NFL announced that all three Thanksgiving games averaged 29.7 million viewers, the highest average viewership since 1998. While the Bears-Lions and Bills-Saints games pulled their own big numbers, it was the Cowboys-Raiders that led the way with a monster viewer count.

In what was the third-most-watched regular-season game ever, 38.3 million viewers watched the overtime thriller. The initial estimate was slightly higher and would have been the second-highest ever, but the final total still impressed.

The only more-viewed games in history were in 1990 when 41.5 million people watched the Giants played the 49ers, and in 1993 where the Cowboys played the Dolphins with 38.4 million watching.

The overall average viewership for Thanksgiving day was a nine percent increase from the 2020 season, and an eight percent increase over 2019.

The Raiders beat the Cowboys 36-33 in overtime, dropping the Cowboys to 7-4 on the season. After an incredible start, the Cowboys are now only two games ahead of the Washington Football Team in the NFC East division. Four of the Cowboys’ remaining six games are against divisional rivals, including two games against Washington.
