Jerry Jones: It's not realistic to have Odell Beckham Jr. for Cowboys playoff run

The Dallas Cowboys and Odell Beckham Jr. seemingly will not come together this season for a Cowboys playoff run together, according to owner and GM Jerry Jones. Realistically, Beckham Jr. suiting up in Dallas for the postseason run can not happen, but Jones did not rule out the Cowboys looking into the Super Bowl champion receiver in the future.

“It’s not realistic to think about having him in a meaningful way for the playoffs,” Jones said, via Jon Machota. “Now, that’s not dismissing the future.”

Injury concerns have been the major roadblock with Beckham and Dallas since his visit at the beginning of December. Beckham tore his ACL during the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.

The most recent veteran addition to Dallas was former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who was a key contributor in the Cowboys’ 40-34 win over the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday.

 In an interview with 105.3 The Fan before the holidays, Jones shared a similar sentiment about Beckham Jr. as time ran out on the regular season.

“As of this morning, we don’t have anything,” Jones said. “The reality is time is moving on down the road relative to playing in the playoffs and so every day diminishes our chances of going forward.”

Beckham Jr. previously flirted with the Cowboys during his free agency tour over the last month.

He already met with the Cowboys, as well the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants, about potentially joining the team. He was also in attendance at a Dallas Mavericks game earlier this month alongside Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons.

In his career since 2014, Beckham Jr. has 531 catches, 7,367 yards, 56 touchdowns and 13.9 yards per catch.

Beckham Jr. starred at LSU prior to his career in the NFL with the Giants, Cleveland Browns and Rams. He finished his three seasons in college with 143 catches, 2,340 yards, 12 touchdowns and 16.4 yards per catch. 

As a member of the Class of 2011, Beckham Jr. was a four-star prospect out of New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 6 overall prospect in the state, the No. 20 wide receiver prospect in the class and the No. 103 overall prospect in the class.

With the Cowboys’ win over the Eagles, Dallas is now 11-4 on the season, two games behind Philadelphia for first place in the NFC East and for the conference’s No. 1 seed with two games remaining.
