Jerry Jones on CeeDee Lamb contract: 'I don’t have any urgency to get it done'
As of Thursday night, there is no contract agreement between CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys. The wait may continue for quite some time too. Owner/general manager Jerry Jones was back in front of reports, giving an update on talks — or potential lack of talk — between the two parties.
“I don’t have any urgency to get it done,” Jones said via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Lamb responded to Jones’ comment on social media. He kept the message short and sweet, seemingly not being too amused with what was said.
Dallas has been in Oxnard for around two weeks for training camp but been without their star wide receiver. Lamb has held out, accepting a good chunk of fines, and has been getting offseason work done on his own time. Even so, no significant process for working out a new deal has been made.
Thursday marked a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams before facing them in the first preseason game of the year on Sunday. Just around a month separates the comments Jones made and the season opener against Cleveland on Sept. 8.
We have seen a scenario with the Cowboys where contract holdouts have beat the regular season buzzer. Back in 2019, Ezekiel Elliott agreed to a new deal on Sept. 4 when the opener was on Sept. 8, just four days later.

Based on what Jones said, a timeline of an agreement between Dallas and Lamb is trending toward later, rather than sooner.
Dallas Cowboys place CeeDee Lamb on reserve/did not report list
The Dallas Cowboys have placed receiver CeeDee Lamb on the reserve/did not report list, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Lamb is currently holding out of training camp in hopes of acquiring a new contract. He is set to enter the final year of his deal with the team and will make a base salary of $17.9 million in 2024.
The three-time Pro Bowler is coming off of a career-best season in which he led the NFL with 135 receptions. He was second in the league with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.
If Lamb signs an extension, he could get over $32 million annually with $100 million guaranteed according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson recently signed a a four-year extension worth $140 million with $110 million guaranteed. He and Lamb were both drafted in 2020.
