Jerry Jones on CeeDee Lamb negotiations: 'My intent is we get something done'
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is confident he will get a contract signed with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. In an interview with DallasCowboys.com reporter Nick Harris, Jones was asked about the importance of keeping Lamb on the team since he has a great relationship with quarterback Dak Prescott.
“What’s exciting is how hard they worked this summer together. They spent a lot of time… Consequently, I’m not at all worried about missing a few practices here at the start of the year,” Jones said. “We’re six months away from getting in a spot to play in that Green Bay game, so we got a lot of time left. But they’ve done a lot of work together.
“CeeDee, when we drafted him, we were ecstatic because he had fallen to us. He’s been that and more for the franchise. He’s a player that gives you a lot of ways to move the ball with him in the ballgame. He’s top player, and my intent is we get something done.”
Lamb is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is currently not with the team at training camp. The 25-year-old is coming off a career year with the Cowboys, catching 135 passes for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Lamb is looking to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Currently, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the highest-paid wide receiver after signing a four-year, $140 million contract extension during the offseason. Philadelphia Eagles wideout A.J. Brown also got a new deal this year, agreeing to a three-year, $96 million extension. And in April, Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions signed a four-year extension for just over $120 million.
How big of a contract will CeeDee Lamb sign?
If Lamb signs an extension, he could get over $32 million annually with $100 million guaranteed. In June, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler talked about how Lamb could get the same contract as Jefferson.
“This one’s interesting because I checked in with somebody who has an understanding of this negotiation and he said, ‘This is a player who has put all his four years’ body of work together, it speaks for itself and the market speaks for itself,’” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “Justin Jefferson putting up a huge number at wide receiver at $35 million per year. So whether Lamb can beat that or not is debatable, but he’s gonna have to probably be pretty close to that number based on what he’s done.”
