Jerry Jones on if Dallas Cowboys considered Micah Parsons trade: ‘Absolutely not’
The Dallas Cowboys are in a precarious position following the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline, but Jerry Jones confirmed there was never any conversations regarding a potential trade of one of their best players.
When Micah Parsons exploded on the scene as a rookie, many believed he was destined to become the top defensive player in the entire league. While his play has tapered off a bit over the past couple seasons, due to injuries and various other reasons, Jones and company don’t believe trading the star defender for draft capital and salary cap flexibility is the move the team should make.
“No. Absolutely not,” Jones told 103.5 The FAN regarding if there were any discussions of a Parsons trade, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “We want Micah Parsons. He’s integral to our future. We (Jerry, Stephen Jones, Will McClay) haven’t had one conversation ever about not having Micah Pasons on the team. Ever.”
Teams would line up to try and trade for Parsons, and they would pay handsomely. Some Cowboys fans believe that’s the way forward, with players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb inked to monster contract extensions already, and Parsons certainly demanding a mind-blowing number when it’s time for him to negotiate, but it’s evident Jones and company don’t agree with that sentiment.

Over the course of his career in the NFL, Parsons has accumulated 227 total tackles, 41.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles in 54 games played. Those aren’t contributions you just give up on, and Dallas won’t be doing that with Micah Parsons.
Whether it ends up being the right move, keeping the star defender in Dallas for the long haul, remains to be seen, but it’s what Jerry Jones and the Cowboys brain trust believe.
