Jayden Daniels nearly led the Washington Commanders to the Super Bowl as a rookie, and many expect to see him as top quarterback in the NFL for many years.
That includes Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Although, he isn’t exactly excited to play the star QB twice per year in the NFC East.
“I get sick when I think the Cowboys have got to play him twice a year for the rest of his career,” Jones said on the red carpet at the 2025 NFL honors. “I would say this, we played him pretty good in Washington, and we played him pretty good for a half when we got him down to Dallas, but he’s a great talent, unique. I’m glad to have him in the National Football League, and frankly, really, I like the idea of competing as we look forward for years ahead against the [Commanders].
“I’m a big fan of Washington as a great football town. And so anything that would help make that more substantive in Washington, I’m all for.”
The Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys split their two-game series as division rivals in 2024, with both teams winning on the road during the regular season. From there, Washington went on to advance through to the NFC Championship game, while Dallas went on to miss the playoffs after losing quarterback Dak Prescott for the season with an injury.

The NFC Championship game also featured the Philadelphia Eagles, a fellow NFC East foe, which means the competition in the division is expected to be strong for years to come.
For Daniels, he adjusted to the NFL right away after being the selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 891 yards and six more scores.
Those were in the upper echelon of passing stats in the league while also being top-three in rushing yards and touchdowns for quarterbacks. With that, it’s already considered to be one of best seasons ever for a rookie quarterback. It also earned Daniels the recognition as a Pro Bowler among the honors for Rookie of the Year.
For his efforts, Daniels is favorite to win AP Rookie of the Year at the NFL honors ceremony on Thursday night, which will air live on the NFL Network and Fox beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
