Jerry Jones suggests Cowboys had hangover from Green Bay playoff game during 2024 season
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that the inconsistent play from his team carried over from last season when they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. On Tuesday, Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan and talked about NFL teams having carryover from one season to the next.
“There’s no question that you can carry over good play from one season to the next,” Jones said. Potentially we even did that, we carried over not-so-good play against Green Bay that we had in our last game in the playoffs last year. I think it’s naive to think that you don’t have carryover.”
After finishing the 2023 regular season with a 12-5 record, the Cowboys lost to the Packers in he wild card round of the playoffs 48-32. At the start of the 2024 season, Dallas lost two of its first three games and then went on to lose five consecutive games after starting the year 3-2.
The 2024 season has been challenging for the Cowboys, but things seem to be heading in the right direction. They have won the last two games, and their next two contests are against teams with losing records. If the Cowboys win the next two games, they will put themselves back in the playoff picture.

Jerry Jones pushes back on talks of Cowboys tanking
Getting a playoff spot will be tough for the Cowboys since they would virtually have to win out to have a chance. But the one thing that we won’t see from the Cowboys is tanking to secure a high draft pick in 2025.
“That has not come across anybody’s mind in this organization. … I get it, I get all of it, but it’s critical to us to get out here and compete. Those guys will be there for us, the ones we want when we get there in the draft,” Jones said last week on 105.3 TheFan. “I just think the game is too important. The win is too important. … A win is a very satisfying thing under any circumstance. It helps you build.
“There’s a lot of ambiguity with those draft picks. … I’ve had draft picks that were extraordinarily high that didn’t work. I’ve had them low that knocked it out of the park. And so, you’ve got to weigh what happens when you get the picks and the odds of you knocking one out of the park there as well, as opposed to winning a game.”
