Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has made it clear that he doesn’t really have any interest in leaving college for the NFL. He recently said he “likes it in Boulder,” dismissing the idea that he’d leave for the professional ranks. But that didn’t stop reporters from asking Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones for his thoughts.

Jones said he saw Colorado’s thrilling overtime victory over Colorado State on Saturday night, bumping the Buffaloes up to 3-0 on the year. The team owner called Sanders a “hell of a coach,” but didn’t want to get too carried away with the NFL conversation.

“He influences people. And of course that’s part of it in the NFL,” Jones said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “But I don’t want to go there because you know where that starts going, every which way.”

A pretty wise decision by Jones. It’s really a no-win situation to answer that question. If he would’ve suggested that Sanders would make an excellent NFL head coach, speculation would’ve only grown about Mike McCarthy’s status in Dallas — especially if the Cowboys struggle at any point in the season.

Right now, that’s not an issue.

Dallas owns a 2-0 record with impressive wins over the Giants and Jets. The Cowboys defeated the Giants 40-0 in the opener and took down the Jets 30-10 in Week 2. Not a bad start to the season.

Deion Sanders says he’s happy in Boulder

Because of Sanders’ early success at Colorado, there’s already speculation that he might leave the college game for the NFL. But he says that’s not the plan.

“I’m not going to the NFL,” Sanders said on ESPN. “I like it here in Boulder.”

The Buffaloes surprised the college football world in Week 1, upsetting TCU, which reached the national championship just a season ago. Success continued a week later with a rivalry win over Nebraska.

Saturday night, Colorado was tested in overtime by Colorado State. The Buffaloes overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Because of that quick success, Colorado has become one of the most-talked-about teams in college football. And, fittingly, Sanders has become a hot commodity in the coaching ranks.

Right now, he says he’s not planning on leaving for the NFL. Could his mind change at the end of the season? If the Buffs keep winning, his name will undoubtedly be mentioned.
