Jets HC Aaron Glenn, owner Woody Johnson address Aaron Rodgers' 2025 status
The New York Jets have a new leader in Aaron Glenn, but the conversation remained around Aaron Rodgers as the team introduced their head coach during a press conference on Monday.
Speaking with the media, Glenn gave his opinion on whether Rodgers should return to the Jets in 2025. Evidently, it’s all in flux at the moment, but the head coach is planning on sitting down with new general manager Darren Mougey and evaluating the team’s roster as a whole, including their veteran quarterback.
“Aaron Rodgers will be talked about,” Glenn stated on Monday. “We’ve already texted that communication with Aaron Rodgers. And as we continue to look at the roster, we’ll make decisions accordingly and that’s with a number of people on the team. … Me and Mougey are going to sit and talk and go over the whole roster.
“I will tell you now that is going to be the answer to a number of questions when it comes to the roster in general. We are looking forward to that process. I can’t tell you how long that process will be but the thing is we are going to make sure we get the right answer and we are not going to rush to this answer because we are going to the right answer. … This thing is not about Aaron Rodgers. It is about the roster.”
Of course, Rodgers has put together a Hall of Fame career, finishing up his 20th NFL season following the 2024 campaign. Over that time, the veteran quarterback has thrown for over 62,000 yards with 503 touchdowns, winning four MVP awards and a Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers, as well.
In 2023, the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets, but Rodgers missed nearly all of the 2023 season due to a torn Achilles. He returned in 2024 and led the Jets to a 5-12 record despite throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns.

There were also numerous points of contention over his time in New York, including a report that he didn’t get along with team owner Woody Johnson. Still, Johnson is claiming he won’t be involved in the Rodgers decision, as he’ll allow Glenn and Mougey to figure it all out.
“I’m going to leave that to them,” Johnson told the media. “They’ve got to take a look at how the team is composed and what they need, and put all of that together. … I’m not going to voice my opinion. That’s up to them.”
And if the brain trust decides to keep Rodgers, it won’t be a problem: “Absolutely,” Johnson added, regarding if he’d welcome the quarterback playing a third season in New York. “If they want him back, Aaron’s a talent, for sure. He’s a Hall of Famer.”
Time will tell what Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey decide, but they’ll have the support of Woody Johnson regardless. Whether Aaron Rodgers plays another season with the Jets remains to be seen, but it seems like he’d like to play another year, and New York is the most likely destination.
