Jim Furyk blasts reporter with NSFW response to President's Cup question: 'F**k off'
The 2024 President’s Cup is right around the corner (16th edition in Royal Montreal Golf Club (Montreal, Quebec, Canada). And many might think with the exception of die-hard golf fans, people aren’t excited about it. And that’s where they might want to speak with the captain of the USA Team first. It’s Jim Furyk. He’s really hyped for the competition.
And Golfweek’s Adam Schupak clearly struck a nerve when he asked Furyk if the Internationals needed to win to energize the event. “So, it’s not like I’m killing you right now, but F**k you. Go f**k yourself. You can quote me on that,” Furyk steamed.
You might be curious as to why a reporter would ask that kind of question for an international competition. It’s because the United States have simply dominated the International team in the event. In the 2022 version of the President’s Cup, the US cruised to a 17.5 to 12.5 victory. The five-point margin of victory was the Americans’ second-largest ever in the event. The US has brought home nine straight trophies in the event, and they’ll try to make it ten this year.
Furyk will be making his debut as the President’s Cup captain after playing in it seven times and acting as a captain’s assistant two times. He was an assistant under Jay Haas in 2015 and Steve Stricker in 2017. Furyk is also no stranger to international competition, serving as the US Ryder Cup captain when the Americans were whipped 17.5 points to 10.5 points. And that might be a big part of the reason why he has no plans to just “give” the international team a victory, no matter how much the Americans have dominated it over the years.
