Jim Harbaugh reveals Ladd McConkey is battling through an injury
NFL training camps are officially underway, which means the start of the 2024-25 season is less than two months away. The Los Angeles Chargers have been working diligently to prepare for their bounce-back season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
In the off-season, Harbaugh bought in an individual with championship pedigree by way of the 2024 NFL Draft: former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Ladd McConkey. However, just as the Chargers training camp has got underway, McConkey has been a noticeable absence, which led to one reporter speculating on whether or not the rookie wide receiver was dealing with an injury. That led to Harbaugh giving me a candid, straightforward answer about the former Georgia wide receiver.
“Yup. Yes,” said Harbaugh.
Harbaugh did not go any further than that two-word answer. As of now, there is no information on McConkey’s injury, nor is there a timetable. The former Georgia Bulldog could be out for a handful of practices for the foreseeable future. But fans will just have to wait until Harbaugh provides the full rundown on his rookie wide receiver’s injury.
The Chargers head coach kept his answer short and sweet about McConkey not revealing the nature of what the rookie wide receiver is dealing with. While his answer might be a head-scratcher to some, ahead of the start of training camp, Harbaugh did address how he would deal with reporting injuries going forward. The Los Angeles head coach might have said it in hey joking matter, but he is clearly sticking to his word on delivering information pertaining to injured players.

Harbaugh details the outline of his injured player statements
It’s been nearly a decade since Harbaugh has had to deal with injury reports. But Chargers fans should fear not, as their head coach has a plan for dealing with those reports going forward.
“So, for clarity, whenever I’m asked about anybody’s medical condition, other than my own, the following will be my best effort to relay information: I am not medically qualified to categorize or speculate as to how someone else is feeling,” said Harbaugh. “The best I can do is say that someone is working through something. Two: I get the report from those who are qualified and then follow the instructions. Three: if at times I look or sound like I am not a medical expert in the field of medicine, guilty as charged.”
