During the CBS broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Jim Nantz publicly advocated for legendary sportscaster Brent Musburger to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Nantz shouted out Musburger during the first quarter as CBS came out of a commercial break showing a graphic of the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees.

“Hall of Fame worthy if there ever was anyone… Iconic broadcaster. Let’s get him to Canton,” Nantz said, via Awful Announcing.

Musburger, 84, is renowned for his work on “The NFL Today” on CBS, as well as calling the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the World Series, the NBA Finals, and the college football National Championship Game. His career included lengthy stints at CBS (1973-1990) and ABC/ESPN (1990-2017). From 2018-22, he served as the radio voice for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Musburger certainly has a Hall of Fame résumé, making him a prime candidate for the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. The award is given out by the decision makers in Canton to one person each year from NFL Media. Longtime NBC producer Fred Gaudelli won this year.

Media veterans vouch for Brent Musburger to go into Pro Football Hall of Fame

Chris Russo joined “The Dan Patrick Show” Monday and vouched for Musburger to get the call into the Hall.

“That’s the biggest disgrace in the world,” Russo said. “Brent Musburger, who’s covered the NFL since 1963? … It is an absolute, unmitigated disaster that they can’t find a way to get Brent into the Hall of Fame.”

Joining Nantz and Russo in the crusade to get Musburger into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is Dan Patrick. Patrick, appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” this past week on Super Bowl Radio Row, asked McAfee if he would help him campaign for Musburger to get inducted.

Patrick also had Musburger as a guest on his show, bewildered once Musburger informed him he wasn’t in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Would you like me to write a letter on your behalf?” Patrick asked, via Barrett Sports Media. “I did this for [longtime NFL Films voice] John Facenda because I said it’s a travesty that the voice of the NFL is not in the Hall of Fame. I give them credit, they responded to me, and they put him in the Hall of Fame.”

Patrick added: “You know what? I’m going to do that. You were the first pregame show, Brent. You should be in the Hall of Fame, [for] contributions to the game.”
