Jimmy Johnson addresses potential FOX retirement following emotional tribute video

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, FOX Sports put together an interesting and emotional tribute to broadcaster and former coach Jimmy Johnson that left many wondering if the all-timer was about to hang it up.
The broadcast debuted an interesting AI-aided feature that highlighted Johnson’s career, showing what he had done as both a player and a coach.
After the feature aired, the cameras cut to Jimmy Johnson, who was teary-eyed and choked up.
“Well first of all that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that,” Johnson said. “I’ve got to thank my family for allowing me the time to accomplish some of those things. And I was blessed to have great players, great assistant coaches and great friends. Thank you.”

The desk then chimed in with several compliments for the long-time television analyst.
“Not only was that piece awesome, but your life has been awesome, your friendship,” Curt Menefee said. “You sit here with us, we sit back, we joke, we have a really good time. But you are one of the special people in my life, and I think we can all say that because you are a genuine human being. A lot people pretend they’re something. If Jimmy likes you you know it. If he doesn’t, OK. But Jimmy is genuine and that’s one of the things we love about him.”
A few others also chimed in.
“And we’ve been together 31 years now,” Howie Long said. “You and I go back to the blue-gray game in 1980, back in Alabama. This is the happiest I’ve ever seen you. It really is.”

Added Terry Bradshaw:
“And that peace, Jimmy, people don’t realize it but you were in the stands when I was playing in the championship game there with AJ and y’all were recruiting me to go to Louisiana Tech and made it there.”
Johnson got choked up again as the camera made its way back to him on the set.
“I can truly say because of my family and because of y’all I’ve never been happier than in this time of my life,” Jimmy Johnson said. “Happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
Without missing a beat, Menefee chimed in asking if he was retiring.
“Was that goodbye?” Menefee said.
Not quite yet, necessarily.
“One day at a time,” Jimmy Johnson said. “One day at a time.”
We’ll see what happens after the Super Bowl, but don’t be surprised if Johnson calls it a career as a broadcaster. Sunday’s feature was certainly an odd one otherwise.
