JJ and TJ Watt make history on Wheaties box
Former NFL defensive end JJ Watt and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt will become the first set of brothers to appear on the front of a Wheaties box.
The popular cereal brand, which has featured prominent athletes on the front over the years such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Tiger Woods, made the announcement via a press release Tuesday.
“Built around a uniting love for football, the Watt family is grounded in perseverance, togetherness and a commitment to doing the right thing when it matters most, while serving communities in their lives outside of football,” Kathy Dixon, senior brand experience manager for Wheaties, said in the release, via USA TODAY. “That’s what being a Wheaties Champion is all about… One of the many reasons we’re so proud to feature J.J. and T.J. on the cover of this limited-edition box.”
The box will be available nationwide in July for $6.19, per the release. Both brothers called it a “childhood dream come true.”
“It is a childhood dream come true to be on the next Wheaties box,” JJ and TJ said. “We hope this box is a reminder for athletes and people everywhere to persevere – on the field and in life. And always champion what you’re passionate about.”
JJ Watt considered joining his brothers on the Pittsburgh Steelers
One destination weighed heavily on JJ Watt‘s mind due to some family ties before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 2021.

After his time with the Houston Texans ended, he became one of the hottest free agent defenders on the market. Watt took his talents to Arizona, but apparently the star pass rusher almost joined his brothers with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Certainly, it would have been awesome to play with my brothers. But TJ was also going through the contract situation there, and the last thing I was going to do was come in and take any money away from his contract,” he said on the “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast.
Watt retired from the NFL earlier in the offseason. He’s now ready to enter the media world as a broadcaster with CBS. He made the announcement earlier this summer.
“Talk a little NFL this fall,” Watt said. “Talk a little life, have a global platform to make fun of my brothers on, it really is a great opportunity. I’m very much looking forward to it, very much looking forward to talking NFL with all you fans this fall and hopefully giving you some knowledge, giving you a little experience, and maybe some laughs along the way. So it’s gonna be a lot of fun, I’m excited to join CBS, let’s have ourselves some fun.”
