During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, Los Angeles Chargers running back JK Dobbins‘ allegiances were tested. While on the show, McAfee and his crew jabbed at Dobbins for playing under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, who previously coached at Michigan — the rival of Dobbins’ alma mater, Ohio State.

More specifically, Harbaugh defeated Ohio State in his final three years with the Wolverines. Although Dobbins plays for Harbaugh now, he had to rush to the defense of his Buckeyes.

“We’re not gonna get into that because I love him,” Dobbins said. “That’s my coach right now. But, as an Ohio State person, I don’t think those games will count. But, look, I love Coach. He’s a great coach. He’s a winner. But, he had a person on his staff that those games might not count.”

In fairness, this season is Dobbins’ first with the Chargers. He spent three years at Ohio State. Dobbins won’t put any NFL team loyalties ahead of his Buckeyes anytime soon.

Despite their adoration for rival universities, Harbaugh and Dobbins found immense success together in the Chargers’ Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. In the win, Dobbins tallied a game-high 135 rushing yards and a touchdown.

He also hauled in three catches for four yards. Harbaugh is no stranger to Dobbins’ talents. While at Ohio State, Dobbins went undefeated against the Wolverines and often excelled in the rivalry game.

Dobbins’ best performance at Ohio State came against Michigan in his junior year. In the win, Dobbins erupted for 211 rushing yards and four scores. He finished the season as the only player in program history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.

Now, JK Dobbins has a chance to set records under his former enemy. After the game on Sunday, Dobbins joked about the unusual situation.

“It’s good. We are the same side now. That’s all I can say, and we’re going to keep working together,” Dobbins said.
