Bad news early out of Cincinnati Bengals training camp. On Thursday, USA Today reporter Kelsey Conway shared that quarterback Joe Burrow went down with an apparent leg injury. And it didn’t look good.

Burrow had to be carted off the practice field as a result of the injury. Usually, that’s not a good sign. However, because it’s so early, specifics regarding the issue remain unknown.

Burrow suffered a major injury during his rookie campaign after going No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s been healthy each of the last two years, though, and has put the Bengals near the top of the AFC.

Training camp just got underway for teams across the NFL. It’s unfortunate to see a star quarterback suffer an injury so early.

Here’s video of the injury:

There was a positive update shortly after video surfaced of Burrow’s injury, though. Head coach Zac Taylor said the injury suffered by Burrow was a calf issue, per Conway’s report.

Taylor admitted that the severity is unknown and that the Bengals will get more information on the injury. A timeframe for a potential return is to be determined.

Burrow suffered a torn ACL during his rookie season in 2020. He sustained the injury in Week 11, ending his year after just 10 games.

The former No. 1 overall pick has played in 16 games each of the past two seasons. Two years ago, he led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance, putting the franchise on the cusp of a world championship.

Burrow has eclipsed the 4,000-yard mark each of the past two seasons, throwing 34 touchdown passes in 2021 and 35 last season.

Joe Burrow talks contract situation

Before suffering a calf injury at training camp, Burrow talked about his ongoing contract situation. With the 2023 season just around the corner, the quarterback didn’t seem to worried about anything.

“I’m focused on getting a deal done that’s good for us, good for me, good for the team and good for everybody,” Burrow said Wednesday after the Bengals finished their first training camp practice.

“The whole goal when you get in league is to get a second contract. I’ve played well. I’ve done everything you can do, it gets done when it gets done.”

In three seasons with the Bengals, Burrow owns a 24-17-1 record as the starter. He’s thrown for 11,774 yards with 82 touchdowns and 31 interceptions.
