Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor gave the latest on injured quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow pulled up limping and was carted off during a training camp practice this week and was diagnosed with a calf strain.

At first, it was a scary sight seeing a perennial MVP candidate limping off and fans fearing the worst. But Taylor said it would be several weeks on Burrow’s return.

As far as the latest this weekend, Taylor joined NFL Network during a live look-in at practice.

“He’s doing good,” Taylor said. “So we’ll continue to work through it. (It’s) something we haven’t been through before. But again, great opportunity for these other quarterbacks to showcase themselves with the ones, but like you said, the fan support is always incredible here in Cincinnati. So today is no different.”

Taylor said he looks forward “to seeing what several weeks looks like,” when he was asked if it meant Burrow would be back for Week 1. So as of now, nothing’s confirmed regarding Burrow and the start of the regular season.

Burrow, 26, went down with a non-contact injury while scrambling to his right during a play in practice. He was carted off the field, making it the third consecutive summer his time in training camp has been halted due to a medical issue.

Burrow, the 2020 No. 1 overall pick, entered training camp the following season recovering from a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. Heading into 2022, he suffered a ruptured appendix which required surgery.

Burrow, fresh off leading the Bengals to Super LVI, recorded the first Pro Bowl season of his career this past season. He threw for 4,475 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 68.3% passing. He added 257 yards and five scores on the ground.

In his absence Friday, Jake Browning took reps with the 1s while Trevor Siemian worked with the 2s. Taylor said both will rotate as they battle it out to be the backup behind Burrow. Taylor indicated that Cincinnati will bring in a third quarterback with Burrow on the shelf, per Bengals.com.

Ja’Marr Chase had a positive outlook on Burrow’s injury. The wide receiver commented on the situation after the quarterback went down during training camp.

“We always give each other that nod,” Chase said. “He gave me a nod to say he’s all right. He’s a strong dude. I wasn’t really worried. I believe he’s all right.”
