Joe Burrow out of practice, considered day-to-day
Still dealing with a calf issue that he re-aggravated during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow did not practice on Thursday. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news.
Cincinnati dropped a 27-24 contest to Baltimore to fall to 0-2 on Sunday. After the game, Burrow said he “tweaked” something in his calf. At the time, the severity of the injury was unknown.
Burrow sustained a calf strain during training camp in the summer. He missed significant time, and clearly he hasn’t quite returned to 100%. The quarterback is listed as “day-to-day.”
Cincinnati returns to action on Monday Night Football in Week 3 to play the Los Angeles Rams. Burrow’s status for the game remains in question.
Burrow completed 27-of-41 passes for 222 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday’s loss. Cincinnati also lost in Week 1 to Cleveland, losing both games to division opponents.
“I’m not sure how it’s going to feel the next couple days,” Burrow said of his calf after the game, according to ESPN. “It’s pretty sore right now. No telling how it’s going to feel. So, I think we’re going to take it day by day.”
Burrow was also asked if he believes the calf will continue to be a problem throughout the course of the season. He provided a pretty candid response.
“Whenever you have these kind of things, it’s always ongoing,” he said. “It’s always something that you’re managing.”

Although it came in a losing effort, the Bengals looked much more competent against the Ravens than in Week 1 against the Browns. Cincinnati dropped that game 24-3 in the opener. Burrow struggled, completing just 14-of-31 throws for 82 yards. He was sacked twice.
Should Joe Burrow have listened to Ja’Marr Chase?
Burrow is stealing with a calf issue, which he injured during training camp. But the quarterback wanted to be back by the start of the season — so here we are.
It makes us wonder if Burrow should’ve listened to his teammate and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. He was adamant that the QB needed to take time away in order to get back to 100%.
“I told him, in all honesty, I don’t want him there,” Chase told NFL Network, per Pro Football Talk. “I sat out an extra game just to let my hip heal all the way up. You don’t want to cause problems later in the season. As long as you’re there after Week Five and on, we’re good, brother.”
Burrow didn’t take that advice, and now the Bengals are 0-2 and he’s battling calf issues. Hopefully the quarterback gets back to full strength quickly.
