There is no denying the fact that Ty Gibbs has struggled in the NASCAR Cup Series since the second half of 2024. That extended into the 2025 season, with Gibbs having an average finish of 23.85 in the first seven races of the season.

Coach Joe Gibbs knows a thing or two about the ups and downs of professional sports. This time last season, Gibbs had five top-10s and three top-five finishes in the first seven weeks. He didn’t have a single DNF until Sonoma.

However, that isn’t the case this year. Martinsville, a P13 result, was his first move in the right direction this entire season. Even so, he had moments that cost him a top-10 finish.

After Denny Hamlin won the race, Joe Gibbs went to the media center to take questions. Ty Gibbs was one of the first topics he was asked about.

“Thank you for asking that. There’s no secret here. We’ve gone through a tough time to start the year. Everything that’s happened to us, not much gone our way.

“When that happens, I know what I’m studying through all of that. That is who surrounds us, who is there with us, who is working their rear-end off at the race shop to try and get us back. Those are the people that I just really, really appreciate. Anytime you go through a tough time, for me, that is something I really want to look at. Who are the guys there. We got some of those guys that are leading us out of this.”

Of course, Ty Gibbs is a little more of a personal case for Coach. What the family has gone through since the death of Coy, Ty’s dad, is important to think about as well.

“I appreciate for Heather, for myself. This is really tough. So it’s a big deal for us. Thank you for asking that question. Appreciate it.

“But we’re going to fight. Ty’s dad Coy, his statement was always anytime we got in a tough spot about his kids, he goes, I raised my kids tough. That’s what he said. Hopefully, we’re going to fight our way out of this.”

Ty Gibbs is showing fight. He was fighting at Martinsville, for sure. He almost talked himself into fighting Tyler Reddick. So, that fire is there. Now this team has to build off the little momentum they have and go to Darlington with their heads held high.
