Joe Gibbs Racing announced in a press conference Tuesday that Chase Briscoe will replace the retiring Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 Toyota for the 2025 Cup Series season.

Briscoe inked a multiyear deal with JGR and Bass Pro Shops will remain the primary sponsor for the No. 19 car. James Small, who took the reins atop the pit box in 2020 after Cole Pearn’s departure, will remain the team’s crew chief.

“I’m excited for this opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing and Bass Pro Shops,” Briscoe said. “From a competition standpoint, JGR is the place to be if you want to go win races week in and week out and to race for the championship every year. I am blessed that Johnny Morris and Bass Pro are on board to help us carry on the legacy of the 19 car.

“For me personally, being an avid outdoorsman, there’s a lot of pride in now being a part of the Bass Pro brand. And I’m extremely grateful for this partnership. Getting to meet Johnny, I feel like I share a lot of the same values as him and Coach. And I’m ready to get to work and prove that they have made a great choice putting me in this car.”

Briscoe, 29, makes the move to JGR after spending the first four seasons of his career with Stewart-Haas Racing. But with SHR closing shop after the 2024 campaign, Briscoe was in search of a new opportunity. He finds it at JGR in one of the most coveted rides in the sport, taking the place of a future Hall of Fame driver.

Briscoe is halfway through his final season with SHR in what has been a solid campaign thus far. He currently sits just 25 points back of Joey Logano for the 16th and final playoff spot. Briscoe finished a season best P2 this past Sunday at New Hampshire. Through 18 races, he has tallied six top 10s and two top 5s.

Briscoe said in recent weeks he received heavy interest from teams, a confidence builder for him.

“It’s definitely been, honestly, a confidence builder I think for me. Just the fact that multiple teams want me,” Briscoe said. “You know, when the whole thing went down two-and-a-half weeks ago, I was panicking that nobody was gonna want me. To be able to have multiple offers on the table has been exciting from a confidence standpoint.

“I definitely think it’s hard, though. Because whatever happens in the future, I kind of determine my own destiny with that choice.”

Coming into this past Sunday’s race at New Hampshire, however, it was essentially known that Briscoe would be joining JGR after Christopher Bell’s slipup in a press conference. While his official reveal was spoiled, Briscoe shared no hard feelings towards his soon to be teammate.

“I mean, I felt like everybody kinda knows what’s going on, right? So, I don’t know,” Briscoe said. “I think the official announcement whenever that is, hopefully, we can have something official soon. I wasn’t mad at him, it was kinda funny, I thought.”
