Joe Gibbs Racing names Ty Gibbs' new crew chief for 2025 NASCAR season
An in-house promotion from the Xfinity Series to the Cup Series will pair Tyler Allen up with Ty Gibbs for the 2025 NASCAR season. Allen worked last year as the crew chief on the Xfinity Series No. 20 team, winning eight races with four drivers.
Ty Gibbs lost his crew chief Chris Gayle to the shuffle that happened when Chris Gabehart was promoted to Competition Director. Now we know who will be his crew chief.
Allen, 37, is a young crew chief. He was originally going to be on the No. 54 Xfinity Series car owned by Ty Gibbs and driven by Taylor Gray. The Gabehart news has clearly changed how 2025 will look at JGR.
“It’s an honor to be named crew chief for Ty Gibbs and the 54 Team as we head into the 2025 season,” said Allen in a team release. “This opportunity has been a dream of mine since starting here at JGR 10 years ago, and I’m thankful for the support and guidance I’ve received from my mentors, teammates, and everyone along the way. Ty has shown a lot of speed and potential the last two years, and I look forward to building on that experience to get the 54 car in victory lane.”
Allen worked on the 2019 championship team for Kyle Busch. He learned under JGR veteran crew chief Adam Stevens. When the green flag drops at Daytona in 2025, he will be guiding a very talented Ty Gibbs.

Ty Gibbs lands new, young crew chief for 2025
This is a bold move. Joe Gibbs is careful about promoting people. They usually make engineers work their way up, drop to Xfinity to crew chief, then come back to Cup as a crew member before being a Cup crew chief.
While that is usually the plan, JGR had to make a choice. Gabehart will now serve the whole organization in his new role. So, they had to look at the talent they had and make decisions accordingly.
Many see Ty Gibbs as a future Cup Series champion. His results in ARCA and the Xfinity Series speak for themselves. Expect Gibbs to take a big step forward in 2025. Year three is major for Cup Series drivers.
Joe Gibbs Racing is moving things around. It is going to be interesting how it all works out. New driver in Chase Briscoe. Then they moved a few crew chiefs around. What else is in store for next season at JGR?
