Joel Embiid fined for WWE celebration ahead of Royal Rumble weekend
Joel Embiid is one of the best basketball players on planet Earth. And apparently, he also has absolutely zero fear of any sort of fines from NBA officials after his hilarious celebrations. On January 25th against the Brooklyn Nets, he had a beautiful layup in the middle of the lane and was fouled. That’s when Embiid decided to pull out a classic wrestling celebration three times: the DX “crotch chop”.
Check it out.
Not surprisingly, the NBA announced on Friday evening the superstar big man has been fined $25,000 for the “crotch chop” celebration. Embiid let everyone know he was ready to give it a little extra, with not one, not two, but three crotch chops. He also had a hilarious response when Kevin Durant did not like his celebration.
So, let’s be perfectly clear on this, Joel Embiid absolutely does not care what you, anyone else, or the NBA thinks of his hilarious celebrations. He’s going to do whatever he wants.
It’s tough to know whether Embiid was doing the celebration because there is a WWE Royal Rumble this weekend or not. Either way, it’s hilarious timing. The WWE Royal Rumble will take place on Saturday in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

As far as his play on the court, Embiid continues to show that he’s a superhuman like figure on the basketball court. This year, he’s averaging 33.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor. Somehow, Embiid was not named a starter for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game, which is just ridiculous in itself, considering the spectacular numbers he’s put up this year. The 76ers President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, was not happy about it and said the former Kansas superstar was “completely hosed” in the All-Star voting.
Whether he’s making plays on the floor or doing hilarious celebrations, there’s no question that Mr. Embiid is must-see-TV.
