Joel Klatt says Arizona Cardinals are his 'favorite fit' for Will Anderson

Most of the conversation surrounding the upcoming NFL Draft has circulated the various quarterback prospects. But one of the top defensive prospects in the entire draft is Alabama EDGE Will Anderson, and after three stellar seasons with the Crimson Tide, college football analyst Joel Klatt has an idea about what team he wants Anderson to land with.

“If they were to make a selection, the Arizona Cardinals taking Will Anderson fits,” Klatt said. “It fits a need, it’s obviously best player available if he’s my best player available overall and they can get him at three. So it makes a lot of sense right there, that’s my favorite fit for Will Anderson is with the Arizona Cardinals.”

The Cardinals have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and with many projecting two quarterbacks being selected with the first two picks, Anderson could likely fall to the Cardinals.

Arizona likely will not be in the market for a quarterback despite the knee injury suffered by Kyler Murray. And with the recent retirement of JJ Watt, Anderson would be immediately filling a hole in the Cardinals’ defense.

Anderson had a decorated career in college, earning Unanimous All-American status twice, winning the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award twice, and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy twice as well. He ended his career at Alabama with 204 total tackles, 58.5 tackles for loss, and 34.5 sacks, wreaking havoc on a game to game basis off of the edge for years.

The one nicknamed ‘The Terminator’ could definitely help a Cardinals defense that struggled last season, giving up the second most points per game to opponents last year with 26.4. Many, including Klatt, have also floated out the possibility of Arizona trading the No. 3 overall pick, but only time will tell if Anderson will end up in ‘The Grand Canyon State’ or elsewhere in April.

The 2023 NFL Draft is set to take place from Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 in Kansas City, Missouri. The event will be held at the plaza just outside of Union Station.

Round 1 of the NFL Draft is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Apr. 27. Rounds 2-3 will begin at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Apr. 28, and Rounds 4-7 will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Apr. 29. The draft will be broadcasted throughout the weekend on both ESPN and NFL Network.
