Joel Klatt says Myles Murphy to the Atlanta Falcons 'fits'
In an NFL Draft that features plenty of defensive talent at the top, players like Clemson edge Myles Murphy can almost get lost in the shuffle. Even so, Joel Klatt believes he will be front and center by the time the Atlanta Falcons get around at the eighth pick.
Klatt explained the fit for Murphy in Atlanta during a mock draft breakdown on his show at FOX. He said that, of all the areas that the Falcons need to improve, they could really help themselves defensively by selecting the former Tiger in their spot in the Top-10.
“For me, Atlanta is looking at a guy kind of right down the road, certainly in the right region. Myles Murphy makes a lot of sense to me,” said Klatt. “I’m looking at the Falcons and they can make themselves better on that side. And the Falcons need a lot of help everywhere.”
“Could this be a wild card? Absolutely. How confident am I in the Myles Murphy pick to Atlanta? Not very. But, to me, it fits,” Klatt continued. “It fits a need, he’s obviously valued right there. He’s a wonderful player. I think Atlanta goes with Myles Murphy.”

Murphy finished a three-season career at Clemson with 115 tackles, 17.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and five pass deflections. In that trio of campaigns, he led the program in sacks twice and forced fumbles once as a menace on that side of the football for the Tigers.
That’s why Klatt sees such a strong fit for Murphy in the ATL. While they’re a franchise that could look to add pieces across the board, defense could end up being their priority. They finished second to last in sacks and tied for last in forced fumbles last season.
There’s still no telling where any of these prospects will end up with the draft but days away. This could even be overselling Murphy’s status considering his projections in some mock drafts. Still, with Atlanta needing a playmaker on that front, Klatt sees a world where that could be a very possible pick for the Falcons on Thursday.
