Joey Logano, Alex Bowman discuss controversial Roval DQ ahead of Las Vegas
For the first time since the Roval disqualification that swapped their seasons around, Joey Logano and Alex Bowman are discussing things. The two NASCAR drivers had their seasons thrown upside down and back again in last week’s elimination race.
Joey Logano was not supposed to make the Round of 8. However, a postrace inspection failure disqualified Alex Bowman. So, Bowman’s points were thrown out and Logano advanced to this round.
It doesn’t appear that there are any hard feelings. Logano and Bowman were laughing as they caught up with each other before today’s race. Wendy Venturini of PRN caught a snippet of the interaction.
It’s good to see that Bowman doesn’t hold any hard feelings. After all, Logano didn’t make his car underweight for the postrace inspection. This is an error that falls on the No. 48 team and that team alone.
Of course, that won’t make the sting hurt any less. Having your championship run ended by a DQ out of your hands is a tough way to go. For Bowman, a driver who has had questions about his longterm future at Hendrick, it’s a big blow.

Joey Logano moving on in the playoffs
This season, Joey Logano has two wins. He is a two-time champion. He knows what it takes to advance in the playoffs and to make a run to the Championship 4 in Phoenix. Once he gets there, he is a threat to win.
Out of all of the drivers in the last round that could have been added back to the field, I think Logano is the last one the other drivers wanted to see. Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, and the other favorites don’t want to see Logano in the Round of 8.
With the Bowman DQ, the 22 team has new life. All it takes is another win and Logano is moving on to Phoenix once again. Top to bottom, this is likely the best Round of 8 field ever in the playoff era, and we should have an intense competition.
Joey Logano is racing for the win today in Las Vegas. Whoever gets the win and automatic bid to Phoenix will have a two-week advantage on the field in terms of preparation. At that point, Phoenix becomes all that matters.
