On the last lap of overtime at Richmond Raceway, Austin Dillon sent Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin into the wall. Dillon went on to win and punch his ticket to the NASCAR Playoffs. Logano was left fuming mad.

This week’s controversy is clear – Austin Dillon’s late-race moves to claim victory at Richmond. What happened? How did it happen? Going into the last corner of the white flag lap, Dillon overdrove the corner by about four car lengths.

The one thing that stopped him was Joey Logano’s car. Then, he came down on Denny Hamlin to prevent him from reaching the line first, right rear-hooking the 11 car in the process to win.

Logano did not see the move coming and was very critical of Dillon in his postrace comments.

“No, when you get that far ahead, three four car lengths ahead in three. I didn’t back up the entry, I was like, ‘I’ll just wrap the bottom here, I’m good.’ And he just drives in so hard,” Logano said, via Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut. “Obviously, he didn’t make the turn because he hit me and the 11 was going to win the race. So, he had no intention to race. I beat him fair and square on the restart and he just pulled a chickenshit move. He’s a piece of crap, he sucks. He’s sucked his whole career, and now he’s going to be in the playoffs and good for him, I guess.”

Joey Logano finished the race P19. Denny Hamlin was credited with P2. Austin Dillon – well for now he is the winner and it doesn’t appear that NASCAR is going to do anything to change that.

Joey Logano believes NASCAR should strip win away

After the race, Joey Logano was obviously not happy. He criticized the move from Austin Dillon in some not-so-nice words. Dillon entered tonight’s race 32nd in points with a season-best finish of P6. Now, he’s in the playoffs.

This is what Logano had to say to media after the race.

“Apparently it’s okay, what do you want me to say?” Logano told reporters, via Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut. “Apparently, you can come from five car lengths back and completely wreck someone and then wreck another one to the line and we’re gonna call that racing.”

When asked, Joey Logano revealed he believes NASCAR should take the win away from Dillon. But he knows that they won’t.

“Yeah, yeah [they should take it away], they won’t. They won’t.”

A controversial finish and a lot of drama in NASCAR’s return. Surely it won’t get any more wild and chaotic in the three weeks before the playoffs.
