Joey Logano praises night race at Atlanta, thinks it's a better experience for fans
Joey Logano is among the supporters of NASCAR‘s decision to run the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta under the lights.
NASCAR changed the start-time for 2023’s version of the race due to the immense heat that rolls through the area this time of the year. Expecting it to be cooler under the lights, NASCAR is also hoping for a bigger turnout, and a more bearable fan experience.
As Logano explained before the cars hit the track later tonight, it’s a smart decision, and he’s glad NASCAR made it.
“I mean, it’s hot. To ask somebody to be sitting up in those grandstands in the middle of the summer, with the sun baking on them, that’s just hard to ask people to do,” explained the Team Penske wheelman, via FOX’s Bob Pockrass. “I’m not going to do that, I’ll tell you that much. So forget bringing kids out to a race or something like that. You get out there and you get sunburn. This is much better, to be able to do that at night, where it’ll be cooler.
“The cars always look cool at night anyways. It’s always kind of a different feel with night races and things like that, so I think it’s a great play. I’m glad we’re doing it.”
One way to cool off at Atlanta for drivers is to win the race, and get showered in champagne. Whether after a day race or night race, it feels just as good, as Joey Logano will be hoping to secure that moment when it’s all said and done on Sunday.

Drivers to watch at NASCAR Quaker State 400 at Atlanta
Continuing, On3’s Jonathan Howard highlighted which drivers should be highlighted ahead of the Quaker State 400, and it’s evident some smart money will be on Joey Logano.
William Byron
The three-time race winner this season has been eyeing another victory for a few weeks. Since the All-Star Race, Byron has two top-10s as well as a top-5 finish. He finished P13 and P14 in the other two races during that time. As a winner at Atlanta in March 2022, I’ve got Byron high on my list for the Quaker State 400.
Joey Logano
Even if Las Vegas and Racing Insights don’t believe in Logano, I do. Two top-5s and a top-10 in his last five races, Logano is not doing as poorly as it might seem. This is pretty much the only track that Ford has done well top to bottom at, so keep an eye on the Team Penske driver.
Denny Hamlin
As for Denny Hamlin, it has been up and down. Not quite checkers or wreckers, but it has been a struggle. Two DNFs in the last five races have not been great. However, P3 at Nashville was enough reminder that these Toyotas perform well on these intermediate tracks, even the superspeedway style racing we’ll see in the Quaker State 400. Oh, and he’s back in the Coca-Cola No. 11 Toyota Camry.
