Joey Logano reacts to new NASCAR daylight rule: It's a 'great idea'
Earlier this week, NASCAR made a change to the daylight rule. Joey Logano is all-in on it and thinks it will be a positive change overall. It makes a lot of sense when you break it down.
Last year at the Chicago Street Race we saw the event shortened by multiple laps due to daylight limitations. NASCAR has had races play out like that in the past at venues without lighting.
In the past, NASCAR would give drivers and teams a lap number the race would end at. Now, officials will inform teams of a time. For example, 8:30 PM. Once the clock hits 8:30, the race ends after the leaders complete two more laps. White flag, checkered flag.
Joey Logano was asked about the change. He is all about it. The driver believes this will give teams a better chance to strategize.
“If you know, ‘Hey the race is going to end at 8:30,’ whatever it is, right?” Logano said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “Like, okay, we know that we can play the strategy off of that instead of it being, ‘Well hey, we’re going to run another 50 laps,’ and you’re like, ‘Oh geez, we would have changed our strategy completely if that was the case.
“So, if that is something they can broadcast even going into the weekend, right? If we have a general idea of when the sun is going to go down, I’m sure if the skies are overcast and all those type of things it probably changes that number some. But I think having a ballpark idea if there’s weather in the area and it seems like we’re going to be pushed late, what that’s going to look like, is I think a great idea. I like it.”

Joey Logano hoping for a strong run at New Hampshire
New Hampshire Motor Speedway is infamous for the bad weather. So, first and foremost, we have to make it through the potential rain and storms in the area. If there is racing on the track today, Joey Logano will be hoping for a solid performance.
The Magic Mile has been kind to Logano in the past. He will have a decent starting position for the Cup Series race this afternoon. The 22 car is firing off P6 after qualifying was rained out on Saturday.
Logano had a rough stretch between Martinsville and Charlotte this season. Since then, he has started to pick up the pace. P5 at Gateway, pole award at Sonoma, and P6 at Iowa. Is he ready for a winning performance?
Joey Logano has his eyes on another top-10 result today. If the rain cooperates and stays out of the way, the NASCAR Cup Series is going to go racing at New Hampshire.
