The luckiest man in NASCAR has to be Joey Logano. He has had a rollercoaster of a last week and now he’s in the Championship 4. So, how did all of this happen?

At the Charlotte Roval, Joey Logano appeared to fall just short. Tyler Reddick knocked him out of the drivers championship, but the 22 team was in on owners points. Then after the race, the unthinkable happened.

Alex Bowman received a DQ for having a car underweight in the postrace inspection. That wiped all of his points out from the Roval and eliminated Bowman from the playoffs. In his place, Logano was elevated to the Round of 8.

So, we get to yesterday in Las Vegas. Logano not only wins the race but does it on a gutsy fuel-saving strategy courtesy of Paul Wolfe, his crew chief. It ended up working and now, the 22 is going to Phoenix.

“I don’t know, I’m just blessed to be in this situation that we’re in, right?” Joey Logano said in his winner’s press conference, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “We were good enough last week to be the next guy to get in, the next team to get in and we were good enough to do that and you know, today we were able to – my wife, I talked to her in victory lane, she was like, ‘Do you believe like one week ago at like this hour, I come walking out of our bedroom and I said, you’re not going to believe this s**t.’ You know what I mean, like you wouldn’t believe it. And here we are a week later, I told her, you ain’t going to believe this, that we won this one.

“So, so excited about the opportunity ahead of us, right? Our focus now is move forward to Phoenix.”

Joey Logano is the luckiest man in NASCAR. Plain and simple. Now, there is no guarantee that Logano is going to win the championship, but the fact he’s going to a record sixth Championship 4 is massive.

Also, thanks to his strategy call, Paul Wolfe earned a new nickname. Logano revealed the team is now calling him Big Ball Paul. I think that name might stick around for a bit. At least until this championship run ends.
