In a statement, Joey Logano opened up the NASCAR Playoffs with his second win of the season and a ticket to the Round of 12. It was one call late to his crew chief that ultimately led to the win.

So, what exactly was the secret call that Joey Logano made? Well, it wouldn’t be a secret if we all knew, would it? The Team Penske driver was sure to keep his cards close to the chest in his postrace press conference.

Logano was heard on the radio telling his crew chief he wanted to go with the plan they talked about on the bus. Whatever that plan was, we’ll never know.

“I can’t tell you (smiling). I’m not going to tell you. Nothing against you, I just wouldn’t tell anybody,” Logano said, having fun with the media.

“Like I said, we go over a lot of stuff together. We prep a lot together, separately and together sometimes. Speedway racing these days, it’s just so interesting. Every track is a little bit different, Daytona, Talladega, Atlanta, all kind of a breed of their own. When you have fast cars like we do right now on these speedways, it’s important for to us capitalize as a team.

“These are our bread and butter right now. We’ve proven that really over the last year plus, that this is our type of racetrack. To be able to make sure that a Penske car wins is very important for our organization right now.”

With Ryan Blaney behind him on the final restarts, Joey Logano had what he needed to lock down the win for his team and Team Penske. All of the Penske cars led laps at one point or another today.

When it was all said and done, Logano won, Ryan Blaney was P3, and Cindric was P10. That is a solid day for all involved. Blaney scored the most points on the day, meanwhile Logano was third and Cindric fourth overall in points thanks to strong stage finishes.

Joey Logano is the first playoff driver in the Round of 12. Watkins Glen and Bristol are up next on the schedule to close out the Round of 16. This is already an improvement over where he was in 2023.

In the last two years, Penske has found an extra gear in the playoffs. Logano in 2022, Blaney in 2023. Is it time for Logano to earn his third Cup Series championship in seven seasons? He got it done in 2018 and 2022. 2024 is off to a solid start.

Team Penske has a real shot at getting all three cars to the next round. That would be major for this organization. It only helps to have friends in the field. So, are we on our way to seeing a Penske three-peat?
