Joey Logano weighs in on track limit debate: 'We have monster trucks compared to an F1 car'
The big topic of discussion in NASCAR after COTA, what do you do to fix track limits? Joey Logano has now weighed in on the topic. The two-time Cup Series champion is firmly on the side of enforcing track limits, but not necessarily with penalties.
For many drivers, the solution to track limits at COTA and other road courses is simple – put in a curb or “turtle” as it is often called. These additions would dissuade drivers from cutting the limits because they will do more damage to their car than they will gain from cutting.
Many felt that the enforcement of track limits wasn’t consistent and led to confusion and frustration more than cleaning up the racing. Joey Logano believes adding turtles or curbs in these areas would fix the situation right up.
“Any time you’re asking the sanctioning body of any sport to make a call, it stinks, right?”
Logano continued with a comparison between NASCAR and F1.
“To me, add some curbs, add some curbs that are on the outside that are big enough that we will not go to the outside of it,” Logano said on his weekly SiriusXM appearance. “We kind of lived part of that story a little bit from 3, 4, 5, 6 those areas where they were calling the penalties. And then we have to add some kind of bigger curb through 8 and 9 there where we go through the dirt. We got to add something that really keeps us from going over there.
“It’s easy to say, ‘Well F1 doesn’t need it and F1 doesn’t do it.’ Well, they can’t even touch the curbs. Their cars are so different than ours, our cars are trucks. We have monster trucks compared to an F1 car, we can ramp these things.”

I think Joey Logano is just happy to be off that road course and heading to a short track again.
Joey Logano needs to get going in 2024
So far this season, Joey Logano has struggled. In fact, it’s worse than struggling. He has been downright awful. Despite two pole awards, Logano only has a single top-10 finish on the year. He also has two DNFs to go with those two poles.
For whatever reason, things just aren’t clicking for the No. 22 team. You could argue that Austin Cindric is having a better season overall than Logano based on race performance alone.
Last week at COTA he was able to pull together a P11 performance, but never had true speed to contend for a top spot. Ford as a whole has not had the speed that Toyota and Chevy have had early on. Figuring out this Dark Horse body will be very important moving forward for the entire manufacturer.
Good news for Joey Logano and the rest of NASCAR, no more COTA this year. Track limits aren’t really much of an issue anywhere else on the schedule, outside of superspeedways, I guess. Logano should be focused on picking up another strong Richmond performance.
