Joey Logano wins Toyota/Save Mart 350 pole award at Sonoma Raceway
It might be time for the No. 22 team to turn things around. Joey Logano just scored the pole award for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma. Logano was quickest in the final session and is going to have great track position for Sunday’s NASCAR race.
There are few drivers who could use a win more than Joey Logano. The pole award this afternoon is going to go a long way to helping him get in the win column once again. With how off Ford has been as a whole this season, winning a third pole on the year is a step in the right direction.
Logano has speed. Now he just has to be consistent and stay focused on Sunday. Will he be able to get the win on the road course?
“I don’t believe in jinxes,” Logano said when asked about his increased speed in recent weeks. “I do feel like we’re making gains for sure. This short track package which is the road course package as well seems to suit us a little bit better whatever reasons those are, you can guess as good as me. But it seems like any time we get off the gas pedal our Penske cars are a little bit better.
“You know we’ve got work to do on the mile and a halfs, don’t think we’ve made any gains there yet but we got to capitalize on the next few weeks. When you look at tomorrow for sure, but also Iowa, New Hampshire, some good race tracks coming up.”
A win at North Wilkesboro for the All-Star Race. Then a top-15 at the shortened Coke 600. Last week, it was a top-5 at Gateway. Now, he has the pole at Sonoma.
Joey Logano could be turning things around. This is the third pole award of the season for Logano, his first since Las Vegas.

Joey Logano wins pole, full qualifying results
Things weren’t easier for Joey Logano even though he had a ton of speed from the jump. There were plenty of talented racers threatening to take the pole away from Logano.
In the end, the 22 car held off Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Daniel Suárez, Alex Bowman, Ross Chastain, and Ty Gibbs in the final qualifying round. AJ Allmendinger qualified P11 just out of the top-10. Carson Hocevar was P12, the rookie was the best of his class.

Will Brown and Cam Waters from the Australian Supercars series had to fight hard for position. Brown qualified P24 while Waters was P31 in their Cup Series debuts. It will be hard to pull an SVG and win in their first races, though.
Last year’s pole winner, Denny Hamlin, qualified P25 for Sunday. The 11 team may have their first slipup in quite some time coming up tomorrow.
