John Harbaugh updates Rashod Bateman injury status
Former Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman was tearing it up early in Ravens camp. The rookie receiver was expected to make quite a splash this fall on the field for the Baltimore Ravens, but he’ll have to wait a few weeks.
On Wednesday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Bateman would miss weeks, not months with his groin injury. There’s now more clarity regarding the star receiver’s status heading into the 2021 season.
The former Minnesota standout is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.
“Bateman, he actually is getting a surgery either (Thursday) or Friday on his groin,” Harbaugh said at his Thursday press conference. “He’ll be back from that sometime in September. So I think that’s pretty good news.”
He suffered the injury during a one-on-one drill against cornerback Marcus Peters on Tuesday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Bateman pulled up during the drill and then went to the ground, according to reports. He was then aided by medical personnel and limped to the training room.
Bateman was expected to make an instant impact on the Ravens’ passing attack, so his injury setback is a disappointment for the Ravens.

Other injuries to Ravens wide receivers
Several other Ravens’ wide receivers have missed time due to injuries during fall camp. Miles Boykin (hamstring), Marquise Brown (hamstring) and Deon Cain (undisclosed) have all missed time. Now, Bateman is expected to be out for a few weeks.
Rashod Bateman’s Minnesota Career
Bateman was drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
He put together an impressive profile of work together while he was at Minnesota. In just five games in 2020, he hauled in 36 catches for 472 yards, and two touchdowns. He had over 100 receiving yards in three of those five games.
The Tifton, Georgia, native set several school records for the Gophers, including receiving yards as a freshman and sophomore. In 2019, he hauled in 1,209 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns for Minnesota, setting school records in both categories. Bateman was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2019.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder caught at least one pass in 31 games (fifth in school history in that category) he played in. Bateman hauled in 147 total receptions (sixth in school history) for 2,395 receiving yards (sixth in school history) in his career at Minnesota.
