Jon Rahm is preparing to withdraw from this week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst, he announced via social media. He is dealing with an infected sore on his left foot and withdrew from last week’s LIV Golf event as a result, according to ESPN’s Marty Smith.

“After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health, to withdraw from this weeks US Open Championship,” Rahm said on X. “To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship! Hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later!”

Rahm has an infected sore between his little toe and the next toe on his left foot, Smith reported Tuesday. He is undergoing treatment, but has been working through pain and decided to back out of this week’s tournament as a result.

Rahm – who won the U.S. Open in 2022 – pulled out of LIV’s event in Houston last week with the infection. At the time, he said his injury was “a concern” and he could’ve kept playing. However, he added it was impacting his swing and he decided to back out.

In the process, he also threw his status for this week at Pinehurst into question.

“Could I have dragged myself out there and posted some kind of a score? Yeah.” Rahm said, via ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti. “But it was getting to a point where I wasn’t making the swings I wanted to make, and I could have hurt other parts of my swing just because of the pain. As to right now [playing] this week, I don’t know.”

Foot problems aren’t new for Rahm. The Spanish star was born with clubfoot and had to go through multiple procedures to walk. Even through his career, the issue impacted his swing and what types of shoes he could wear before he started his partnership with TravisMathew, Golf Digest reported in 2021.

Jon Rahm joined LIV this season after receiving a lucrative contract in December worth $350 million. That came after he won The Masters in 2023, and he struggled in the first two majors this year. At Augusta National, he finished tied for 45th, and he missed the cut in last month’s PGA Championship at Valhalla.
