Jonathan Owens planning Simone Biles-themed celebration for 2024 season
Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, the husband of Simone Biles, is thinking up a celebration to honor his wife’s Olympic performance. Biles added three gold medals at the 2024 Games in Paris to bring the total number for her career to 11 (seven gold), making her the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history.
Owens was in Paris to watch Biles perform but has since returned to Chicago with training camp underway. Video emerged of him at a recent Bears practice that was being filmed for an episode of “Hard Knocks,” where Owens was detailing his experience in Paris to teammates.
After some discussion about how good the crepes and fruit were, fellow defensive back Elijah Hicks suggested Owens should do a flip for a celebration. The safety didn’t seem too keen on the idea, but he did consider doing the signature salute that gymnasts give judges when they’re finished with their routine.
Owens and Biles have been married since 2023 after the pair began dating in 2020. He was able to watch his wife win two gold medals in Paris before flying back to Chicago, but still offered his support from afar for her third.
Owens went undrafted out of Missouri Western in 2018 and made his NFL debut with the Houston Texans in 2019. He played a limited role for his first three seasons before going on to start all 17 games in 2022, recording 125 tackles and four passes defended.
This will be the first year in Chicago for Owens after he played with the Green Bay Packers this past season. He finished 2023 with 84 tackles and a forced fumble, which he returned for a touchdown.
The Bears are coming off of a 7-10 record and hopeful to take another step forward this season. Perhaps if Owens plays a big enough role, we’ll even get to see the Biles celebration a few times.

Jonathan Owens records wife Simone Biles’ all-around Olympic scores with Mona Lisa pen
During his wife’s all-around competition, Owens was in the stands diligently taking notes. He revealed to the NBC broadcasters that he used a brand-new pen that he bought at the Louvre earlier in the day. The pen has the Mona Lisa on it.
Owens was able to begin training camp with the Bears last week, but on Monday, he left for Paris to join his wife.
“It’s the person you love most, man, and you see them out there in a position where someone could get hurt and you care,” Owens said of his anticipation. “I’m just holding my breath and I have my little piece of paper right there ready calculating everything so I can’t wait. It’s always super nerve-wracking.”
When Owens began negotiations with the Chicago Bears in free agency this summer, he made sure they knew he had to be in Paris this month. He agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears this summer after spending the 2023 season in Green Bay.
