Jordan Addison ankle injury update: Vikings don't believe it serious, will miss next practice
The injury bug appears to be hitting the young talent of the Minnesota Vikings hard. Vikings rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy is likely to miss the remainder of the preseason and regular season after having knee surgery. And now, second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison is expected to miss some time after suffering a lower leg injury in Wednesday’s joint practice. However, the news on the second-year wide receiver is not as troubling as it was for the rookie quarterback.
Vikings beat reporter Matthew Coller recently provided an update on Addison’s injury situation, revealing the former USC Trojan will miss some time with an ankle injury.
“Update on Jordan Addison: Injured his ankle, unlikely to practice tomorrow but KOC doesn’t believe it to be serious,” said Coller via X. “‘I think he’s going to be OK,’ KOC (head coach Kevin O’Connell) said after practice.”
Addison put up big numbers in his rookie campaign for the Vikings. The No. 23 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft finished last season with 70 catches on 108 targets for 911 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.
The good news is that it appears that Addison’s injury is not believed to be too serious. However, fans should expect Minnesota to do everything in its power to prevent their young, talented wideout from missing any time this year in the regular season because of said ankle injury.

The Vikings lose McCarthy for the season
After having surgery for his torn meniscus, it’s unfortunately been revealed that Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss the entire 2024 campaign, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
“Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy will miss the entire 2024 season after having his torn meniscus repaired today by Dr. Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics, sources tell me and @RapSheet,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said. “Disappointing end to Year 1, but repair gives McCarthy the best chance at a long career.”
The disappointing news truly ends McCarthy’s rookie season without it ever kicking into gear, barring a miraculous recovery. Additionally, it makes the former Michigan Wolverines quarterback’s message to the Vikings faithful all the more tragic.
“Love you Viking nation,” McCarthy said when it was first revealed he had a torn meniscus. “I’ll be back in no time. Amor fati.”
Moreover, McCarthy originally underwent an MRI earlier this week after he missed Monday’s practice with knee soreness. Afterwards, Head coach Kevin O’Connell later confirmed that the quarterback had tore his meniscus in his right knee.
