Jordan Addison releases statement after citation for reckless driving

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has released a statement after he was cited for reckless driving on Thursday. The former USC standout was caught on video driving 140 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

“Yesterday morning I made a mistake and used poor judgment,” Addison said through his agent, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry.”

Addison’s Lamborghini Urus was clocked at 140 mph in a 55 mph stretch of I-94 in the early hours Thursday morning, according to Minnesota State Police incident data. Troopers performed a traffic stop, identifying the driver of the Lamborghini as Addison. He received a citation for speeding and reckless driving around 3:07 a.m.

The Vikings released a statement after reports of the citation came to light.

“We are aware of last night’s traffic incident involving Jordan Addison and are gathering additional information,” the statement read, via Rapoport.

Minnesota selected Addison with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of USC. He started his college career at Pitt, where he won the Biletnikoff Award as the top target for Kenny Pickett in 2022. That year, Addison had 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns.

After that season, however, Addison entered the NCAA transfer portal and wound up at USC under Lincoln Riley. As a junior, he totaled 875 yards and eight touchdowns as Caleb Williams’ top receiver. Addison had another year of eligibility remaining, but decided to head to the NFL.

Addison is preparing to start training camp with the Vikings next week, but he dealt with an injury earlier in the offseason. However, the rookie wide receiver remained engaged in meetings, which gave Minnesota a sense of optimism as he recovers and looks toward camp.

“Addison participated in rookie minicamp two weeks after the draft, displaying the versatility the Vikings hope he can bring to their offense as a playmaker at both outside positions as well as in the slot,” ESPN’s Kevin Seifert wrote last month. “But Addison was sidelined for the remainder of the offseason program because of what coach Kevin O’Connell called a minor injury. He is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp.

“In the interim, O’Connell said that Addison ‘has been phenomenal in meetings and out here asking great questions when they come up.’”
