Jordan Brand to pay Jalen Hurts’ fine for wearing different colored cleats in Eagles-Steelers game
The Jordan Brand has Jalen Hurts’ back. They’re paying the fine the Eagles quarterback received for wearing different colored cleats during this past weekend’s game between the Philadelphia and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero originally reported the news of the fine: “Two shoes, one fine: The NFL docked #Eagles QB Jalen Hurts $5,628 for violating the league’s uniform and equipment rules in Sunday’s win over Pittsburgh, per source,” Pelissero posted on X. “Officially, Hurts’ fine was for wearing a shoe color that’s not one of the Eagles’ ‘Constitutional team colors.'”
Hurts had a good reasoning for going with the two-shoe look, aside from it looking fire. He even coined a new nickname for himself in the process.
“I was supposed to wear the Columbia 11s that I gifted the kids that were at the ‘Wings Initiative’ after last week’s game and they never came in,” Hurts said. “I end up having all my shoes there. Guy wanted to take some pictures. Took about 5 minutes, some very casual. And ended up taking pictures with two different cleats.

“And I was like, ‘I’ll wear these on Sunday because my shoes didn’t come in.’ Hopefully, they come in soon. … I had to go Jalen two-shoes for a bit.”
Once news of the fine hit the wire, Jordan Brand decided to cover it for the quarterback, according to Nick DePaula of ESPN, who covers the footwear industry: “40 Years Apart: Jalen Hurts receives ‘banned”’letter from NFL after wearing Air Jordans in violation of league’s uniform policy. He will be fined $5,628. ‘We’re paying the fine,’ Jordan Brand tells me. ‘You can’t ban greatness.’
“Fine comes 40 years after Michael Jordan’s black & red shoes were banned by the NBA.”
That’s pretty awesome from the Jordan Brand. Maybe Jalen Hurts will rock the look again in the future, even if it’s a bit of an expensive uniform decision. If it becomes a source of good luck for the Philadelphia Eagles though, he might just have to do it.
