Jordan Love is still a young starting quarterback in the NFL, learning on the fly. His relationship with Matt LaFleur has to be a unique one, with LaFleur also being the playcaller. He and Love are going to be talking a lot more than your typical head coach and quarterback.

Green Bay might be on the field for Monday Night Football against Las Vegas but when Love finishes up the game, he will have some advice from Peyton Manning waiting for him. Manning believes Love needs to be firm with LaFleur when it comes to the plays being called. If he is not a fan of them, being honest is the best scenario.

We all know the Packers’ previous quarterback had no problems voicing his opinion.

“I think it’s hard telling a head coach that’s calling the plays ‘Yeah, that play sucks. I hate that play. Don’t call it.’ I think Aaron (Rodgers) had no problem telling Mike McCarthy or Matt LaFleur ‘I hate that play. Stop calling it.’ But for a young quarterback, it’s a little tougher,” Manning said during Monday’s Manning Cast.

“If I’m Matt LaFleur, I wish Jordan would tell me more. ‘If you don’t like it, tell me. Because I won’t call it.’ But Jordan is so positive, which is a plus. At some point, you got to be able to say ‘I just don’t like that play. It doesn’t make sense to me. Let’s keep working on it and let’s come back to it later in the season.'”

The ManningCast broadcast went on to show a photo of Love at the Manning Passing Academy, going back to his days at Utah State. Peyton Manning joked that’s where the initial advice was given, with the two talking about football with each other for quite some time.

Love has not had the best start through four games of the 2023 season. He is completing just 56% of his throws, one of the lowest among starting quarterbacks in the NFL. His eight touchdowns are pretty nice but three interceptions and 901 yards do not exactly jump off your screen.

Most importantly, the Packers are just 2-2 and are in danger of falling below .500 on Monday night. Transitioning away from Rodgers was always going to be a difficult task but there is faith Love can wind up being the guy.

Maybe Manning’s advice could be something that clicks in Love’s head and lets this thing really take off.
