There’s a lot that comes with picking up a mantle that Aaron Rodgers held as well as Brett Favre before him. That’s the position that Packers QB Jordan Love is currently having to handle in Green Bay ahead of next season.

However, from a leadership standpoint, Love isn’t trying to overdo anything with his teammates. In a media availability this week, he says that he is taking his time in learning that role as he grasps how to best be a leader and a voice for his teammates.

“I mean it’s gone good. I don’t try to do too much about it. It’s going to take time to grow into that role,” Love said. “But I’m just trying to keep taking it day by day and, like I said, being a voice (where) guys can come to me, ask questions.”

From there, Love pointed out how his own inexperience is playing a part in that process. While he’s doing his best to earn respect himself, he says that, at 24 years old and heading into his fourth NFL season, he’s also still picking things up as he goes, especially from Green Bay’s veteran leadership.

I’m still young as well. I ask all the vets questions all the time,” said Love. “But I don’t try to do too much, really, with that role.”

Through three seasons as a pro, Love has seen action in just 10 games and thrown only 83 passes as Rodgers’ backup. At this point, he has 606 passing yards to his name with three touchdowns and interceptions apiece.

Now, with Rodgers off to the New York Jets this offseason, it’s Love’s responsibility to assume the Packer’s QB1 spot. More importantly, though, he has to find his own way to lead in order to keep Green Bay afloat in what is currently a very uncertain time within the franchise.

Love breaks down how life changes as a starting quarterback

Since the move to send Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets became official, it’s been Jordan Love’s show in Green Bay. But the third-year quarterback hasn’t been behaving much differently.

Speaking with reporters at the end of OTAs and mandatory minicamp, Love broke down how he has approached things now that he knows he’ll be the Week 1 starter. He hasn’t changed up the routine much, but has come to it with a pronounced focus.

“It’s kind of the external things that I can’t control that might be a little more different now being the starter. But for me, I try to keep the main thing the main thing. Try and not do too much in my life where I’m pulled so many different ways. And can’t relax, settle down, and be able to focus on what I need to focus on. Like I said, I tell people all the time, I’m really just focused on this year,” Love said. “Not be doing too much outside, getting pulled in different directions, things like that. But yeah, obviously life changes a little bit when you go from being a backup to a starter. Different opportunities and things like that.”

If anything, Love is feeling an increased sense of urgency to be ready to go when training camp hits.

“I think the urgency, the urgency we need to get ready fro training camp. It’s coming up fast. Obviously this is our last practice so when we come back, we’ll be heading into the season. So I think that part changes a little bit knowing that you’re that guy. Knowing, obviously, that Aaron’s not coming back. But, for the most part, training, everything like that, it’s going to be the same for me,” Love said.
