Jordan Love injury update: MRI results in for Green Bay Packers QB
Jordan Love suffered an MCL sprain during the Green Bay Packers’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, tests done to his lower leg reveal.
No ACL damage was found, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Love is expected to miss 3-6 weeks, but there is “early optimism that he could return sooner than later,” per Tom Pelissero.
Love was injured on one of the final plays of the Packers’ 34-29 loss to the Eagles. He knee appeared to buckle after a hit, and had to be helped off the field after being tended to on the field by athletic training staff.
Before going down with the injury, Love completed 17 of his 34 passes for 260 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns with one interception. He didn’t look quite himself for most of the night accuracy wise, and he had trainers working on his calf in the second half.

Many fans and analysts across the country had Love penciled in for a big season this year, after his breakout campaign in 2023-2024. In 17 games last year, he finished with 4,159 yards, while tossing in 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, establishing himself as one of the league’s best at the position.

This offseason, Love signed a four-year, $220 million extension that will keep him under contract for the Packers through until 2028. It also put him at the top of the quarterback market, earning $55 million a year.
Green Bay made their quarterback one of the highest-paid players in the league with a record $75 million signing bonus, plus $155 million in new full guarantees. Overall, $100.8 million was fully guaranteed at signing, and binds Love to Green Bay for at least three seasons regardless of injury status.
Before signing him to the major deal, the Packers at the time controversially drafted him with the No. 26 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Though he sat for several seasons behind four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, he eventually moved into the starter role that the team hoped he would fill when they added him to the roster.
Next up for the Packers is their Week 2 home opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Kickoff is set for Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. ET live on FOX.
