The Green Bay Packers experienced the last thing they wanted to happen on Friday night against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. In the final seconds of the game, Green Bay star quarterback Jordan Love had his left ankle twisted by an Eagles’ defender, before pitching the ball back to running back Josh Jacobs. Love limped off the field with assistance from Packers’ trainers and medical staff with six seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles ended up winning the game, 34-29. After he went down, backup quarterback Malik Willis came in for the Packers, and couldn’t get anything going before being sacked, and the game was over.

Before going down with the injury, Love completed 17 of his 34 passes for 260 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns with one interception. He didn’t look quite himself for most of the night accuracy wise, and he had trainers working on his calf in the second half.

When he leaded to the locker room after the game, Love was seen walking with running back Josh Jacobs and a trainer helping him exit the field. His status will obviously be a major concern for the Packers moving forward.

Many fans and analysts across the country had Love penciled in for a big season this year, after his breakout campaign in 2023-2024. In 17 games last year, he finished with 4,159 yards, while tossing in 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, establishing himself as one of the league’s best at the position.

He showed impressive chemistry with his young, but talented receiving corps, guiding the Packers to a blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card matchup of the 2024 NFL Playoffs. He threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in that one, putting on a masterful performance.

This offseason, Love signed a four-year, $220 million extension that will keep him under contract for the Packers through until 2028. It also put him at the top of the quarterback market, earning $55 million a year.

Green Bay also handed out the biggest signing bonus in NFL history to Love, according to Spotrac: $75 million. That surpassed the $73 million the Detroit Lions signed over to Jared Goff earlier in the summer.

For now, Green Bay will just have to wait and see what the update on their star quarterback is after tests/diagnosis.
