Jordan Phillips injury update: Mike McCarthy reveals Cowboys DT to injured reserve amid wrist injury
Dallas Cowboys (1-1) head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (wrist) is going on injured reserve.
With Phillips sidelined, Dallas signed defensive tackle Carlos Watkins, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. Phillips will be required to miss at minimum the next four games. The 31-year-old sustained the wrist injury in this past Sunday’s 44-19 Week 2 defeat to the New Orleans Saints (2-0).
Phillips, then with the Buffalo Bills (2-0), underwent surgery last year after suffering a dislocated right wrist in Week 15 against the Cowboys. Surgery is a possibility for his latest wrist injury, per Todd Archer of ESPN.
Cowboys run defense takes a hit with Jordan Phillips on injured reserve
The Cowboys acquired Phillips and a 2026 seventh round pick from the New York Giants (0-2) in exchange for a 2026 sixth round selection in a training camp trade. New York had signed him in the offseason. But with Dallas starving for help in its run defense, the move was made to acquire Phillips. The 10-year veteran recorded just a half tackle in the Cowboys’ opening two games.

New Orleans ran for 190 yards against Dallas in Jerry World. Running back Alvin Kamara scored three of his four touchdowns on the ground. It doesn’t get any easier for the Cowboys in Week 3 this Sunday. They host the Baltimore Ravens (0-2), and their potent rushing attack led by Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.
The Cowboys will look for Mazi Smith, Osa Odighizuwa and Linval Joseph to step up in Phillips’ absence.
