Jordan Spieth gets caught dropping huge F-bomb on hot mic at U.S. Open
The U.S. Open has been good to some golfers in the field at Los Angeles Country Club. Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele had record-setting days during Thursday’s first round and tried to carry that momentum into Friday.
For others, such as Jordan Spieth, it wasn’t such smooth sailing.
On the eighth hole Friday, Spieth hit a shot — and didn’t seem very happy. A hot mic captured him yelling a huge f-bomb as the shot wound up in the bunker short of the green.
This isn’t the first time a hot mic caught Spieth’s frustration in the heat of the moment. During last month’s PGA Championship, he sounded off about his struggles with his irons as the cameras rolled and the microphones sat nearby. Once again, an f-bomb slipped in a moment to which most — if not all — people who golf can relate.
“Damnit!” Spieth said. “Hit one good f***ing iron shot!”
Although Fowler and Schauffele had huge days on Thursday, Spieth didn’t have the same fate. He shot 2-over in the first round and finished 1-over in the second round on Friday, putting him at 3-over. If the current cut holds at 2-over, Spieth would miss the cut and leave Los Angeles earlier than expected.

It marks a tough follow-up for Spieth, who finished tied for fifth at the Memorial earlier this month. Before that, he missed the cut twice in three appearances. The only exception was the last major when he finished tied for 29th at the PGA Championship. He didn’t play in last week’s RBC Canadian Open.
Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele make history during first round of U.S. Open
Rickie Fowler looked like his old self on Thursday amid his impressive first round at the U.S. Open. He shot an 8-under 62, setting the record for lowest round ever in a U.S. Open. He held the record on his own for about 20 minutes, though, as Xander Schauffele carded an identical score to finish tied with Fowler atop the leaderboard through the first day.
The opening round 62 by both players gives them the lowest round ever shot by any golfer in U.S. Open history. They tied Branden Grace’s 62 at the 2017 British Open Championship for the lowest round in major championship history. Appropriately, both golfers are native Californians. However, they have taken very different career paths the past few years.
